The Linuxologist: Create Your Own Linux Distro!

    wha, no banshee.
looks pretty cool, and in a few years, well... We will see.

Rami, I'm sure the link should be http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/

Yeah, a very good distro from reviews I read. I myself have downloaded it but haven't tried installing it. Enabling you to create a distro is something I have just known. Actually I'm a newbie in Linux. I think SAM Linux is also good. It seems quite easy in Adding New Hardware.

Don't believe that crap, Jane. It's pure FUD and holds absolutely no truth.
  • Vincent · 1 year ago
    @reb - actually, it's satire :)
  • TruthTeller · 1 year ago
Jane's right to listen to that article. Some things it didn't mention, though, is that windows is more secure than linux!! Think about it. After we are exposed to viruses, we build up immunity! If linux boxes arent constantly infected, how can they be more immune? Just common sense. Go with windows, sure at first your crashes and data loss will be a pain, but after a while, your machine will be immune to anything..... right?

This article has link to everything, except for the main topic in question: NimbleX 2 . . .
  • Rami Taibah · 1 year ago
@Chieh Cheng, LOL, didn't notice that, thanks for commenting about that, just added a few links :)

TruthTeller your logic is funny :) I really hope no one is supper gullible. If they are, it doesn't work the same way with computers. Yes there are third parties out there that try to crack everything they can, but there's a reason why Linux and Macs have less problems. You could point out the amount of users but that only goes so far. The difference is with open source there's an army of programmers worldwide that can view the code and make sure there are no holes. With Microsoft you depend on someone that finds it and reports it to Microsoft. Then you have to wait until Microsoft deems it a big enough threat - wait another month or so for the patch release -etc.

Not to mention the whole user permission difference between Windows & Linux. Linux is slowly making it's way to a user friendly mainstream OS.

The truth about linux made me laugh so hard, props to whoever wrote it

Thanks for letting me know. My whole world was collapsing around me thinking what I have gotten myself into.
  • Pedro · 1 year ago
Does anyone actually know anyone in that army of developers who are constantly scouring the source code for security bugs? I mean I've been using linux for years, spent most of that time downloading porn.
  • Monica · 1 year ago
I am using mine right now and I must say I'm pretty impressed by it. Everything I need works just fine. I'm keeping this CD close.
  • jack · 1 year ago
there is so much more to creating a distribution than this...
  • George · 1 year ago
This is not creating a distribution. NimbleX team created the distribution but it's definitely the best and easiest way to customize your livecd.
  • Fernando · 1 year ago
I'd like to know what degree of customization does it allow, for instance, how to customize the default desktop can I have some folders there by default, can I select one KDE colour scheme? And finally and most important, does it change the name of the distro to whatever you make it? (ie HeheLinux at boot and the text strings?)
  • Rami Taibah · 1 year ago
@Fernando, as I said in the beginning of this post, this isn't the "real" thing. If you want the real thing then you should probably do Linux From Scratch. That said, the options I presented in this post is all you get. Sorry :) But of course you can probably create a distro using this and then remaster it ;)
  • Fernando · 1 year ago
    Hi Rami,

Good job you have done. I will probably take the latter approach... just curious what kind of packages are used on the CD? RPM? deb?

It'd be trivial for me to update a few of the components from a Nimblex install CD if the packages are in RPM or DEB, I think...
